Former Australian-based Tobago born forward Kevin Nelson has joined ailing T&T Pro League club North East Stars.
Nelson back in Trinidad after trial in Vietnam with V League club Hoang Anh Gia Lai has agreed to join the Sangre Grande based club until the end of this season.
North East Stars was scheduled to meet Nelson’s former club W Connection last night at the Ato Boldon Stadium and the Tobago-born striker was hoping to get the nod to play.
Nelson, failed to secure an extension on his contract with the Savonetta Boys after 2007 and spent the pre-season with Macoya based Joe public. He said it was a personal agreement that helped him keep fit as his efforts was to secure a foreign contract in Vietnam which never materialised for reasons off the field.
Nelson played with St. Clair’s Coaching School (where he striked alongside players like Colvin Hutchinson, Ashley McMillan, and others) before he playing in Trinidad with San Juan Jabloteh. After Jabloteh, he went on to play in Venezuela (Caracas FC ), Canada (Ottawa Wizard) and Australia (South Melborne) before joining W Connection last season.
Nelson started in North East Stars practice match against Super League club Harlem Strikers on Saturday and scored one goal in his team’s 4-1 win.
“I’m looking forward to scoring goals with North East Stars. I have been scoring goals throughout my career and I’m just looking to do the same for North East.”
