Kennya CordnerTrinidad and Tobago’s under-20 women’s footballers advanced to the next stage of qualifying for the 2008 CONCACAF Under-20 Women’s Football Competition following a comprehensive 11-0 victory over the US Virgin Islands (USVI), yesterday, at the Marvin Lee Stadium, Macoya.

The visitors (US Virgin Islands) were never in the match and conceded their first goal as early as the fourth minute when Mariah Shade put the “Soca Princesses” ahead. Mariah Shade went on to complete a hat-trick, getting her goals in the fourth, 16th and 39th minutes.

The United States-based Kennya Cordner also struck a hat-trick, getting her goals in the eighth, 38th, and 77th minutes. Five other T&T players got on the scoresheet. Bianca Walker got T&T’s fourth goal in the 26th, Candice Edwards scored in the 50th, Avenelle Issac in the 53rd, Arielle Tu Quesnay in the 71st, and Karyn Forbes hit a bullet past Deneque Phillip, the capable USVI goalkeeper, to get T&T’s final goal in the 85th minute.

Although T&T totally dominated their USVI opponents, they looked slow and not very good themselves. They will have to improve significantly if they are to get past the next round of qualification.
