Dwight Yorke and Stern John “added some Caribbean class” to Sunderland AFC’s performance as they beat West Brom 2 to 1, and boosted the team’s chances for promotion to the Premiership today. The Trinidad and Tobago pair scored a goal apiece in a combative game at the Hawthorns.
According to Sunderland’s website, Yorke opened the scoring in the 23rd minute, finishing off a good move. After a good run, full-back Danny Simpson fed John on the edge of the box and with a first-time pass he found Yorke. The former Manchester United marksman steered a shot into the corner to stun the home crowd.
Stern finished off scoring in the second half with a header on Dean Whitehead’s corner.
